North Star Conversations Transcript: How the Practice Began—True Mind + Body
Melissa and Caroline Novack explain the origin of True Mind + Body, grounded in their shared belief that movement supports emotional and cognitive availability. They discuss how their work evolved from personal experience into a therapeutic lens—using movement not just to supplement therapy, but as a central method of healing.

Could you take a to introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about your role at True Mind and Body.
Caroline Novack (00:06)
A little something about us is our shared love of movement and specifically what started with yoga and has sort of expanded from there. But our strong belief that movement can be very powerful with healing and within the realm of psychotherapy.
Melissa Novack (00:24)
The way that Caroline and I started the practice was, okay, we feel better when we move our bodies. It makes us more available both cognitively, physiologically. It regulates our emotions, it brings in better focus, it improves mood. And that's sort of where we got the start. And then it progressed a lot. And that it wasn't just ⁓ when we talk and move our bodies, we feel better, but what if we actually use the movement part to be the therapeutic lens. And so then that's where I feel like it progressed.
